i hope we have more luck this yr last yr we didnt start till late by thistime summer was nearly over we fished 3 times then my ford galaxy broke down which took 2 weeks to fix then we went away on holiday for2 weeks on the way back it brokedown again took 2 weeks 2 fix so we soldit then got another car it took 1 week to fit atow bar which left us 2 weeks season left this was very didheartining in the uk we pray for good summers good seas arent garanteed so many people have different opions on whether it is ok to go out to the eddystone rock lighthouse on 30hp engine on my shetland 535 which i am very pleased with can anyone tell me different

Sorry, I know I've said it before but get a bigger auxiliary 1st mate, you'll get swept away if your main engine fails out there-the tides are strong and the merc 2.2 you say you've got on your profile will be useless.<br /> If you haven't got a FIXED (not handheld) VHF radio then do the training,get a VHF licence and get one too,along with an OFFSHORE flarepack.(and a GPS and map if you haven't already got one!)<br /><br />Personally I'd have a bigger main engine than a 30hp to go out that far unless it's flat calm with no wind and you know it's going to stay that way-if the tide turns and you end up in wind against tide chop you're probably not going to be able to get on the plane with 30hp. It'll take a long time to get back and use an awful lot more fuel.

thanks for that i wiil be getting bigger engines soon and i have a vhf radio and flares and i dont mean the flares you wear

Just a thought johnny, I've seen Shetland 535's with twin 30hp's on them-if yours has enough room on the transom it'd solve all your problems?
