So I had to replace an engine over the winter due to water intrusion from either a crack in the block or the batwing one piece exhaust manifolds.

During the motor replacement I decided to go from the factory 2 bbl to a edelborck 1409 and performer intake.

I have a vortec 4.3L so the 4 bbl swap was pretty natural.

Towards the end of last year, I knew I was nursing a water logged 4.3 but we would get out to the lake early, when the water was like glass and make some runs just to have the "butt dyno" comparisons. We were able to squeeze about 36 mph (GPS) out with two adult males and an ice chest. Not very impressive.

Did the repower, worked thru the minor adjustments, and broke the new motor in.

Saturday night with slightly rough waters with 4 adults and a ice chest (same test plus two woman)... clocked it at 47 mphs...

The butt dyno and the GPS says the 4bbl swap was well worth it.
I understand that part of the gains was from the new (not water logged motor).

But I will tell you that at around 3500 rpm, when the back bbls open....it pulls hard.

I'd bet with the right conditions, I'm over 50 mph.

I like it!!!:D

That is cool
I can't wait to get on the water and start breaking my new new motor in and see what kind of gains I have over last year.
Don't forget to check your rpms and speed and maybe you can play around with the prop and hit the 50 mark.

Did you go with a 500 of 600 cfm?

That much of a gain means that the old engine was really pooched. The 4bbl conversion gets you about 20 extra ponies which doesn't translate to 10-15mph, 3-4mph maybe. Where you would probably find the biggest difference is in the acceleration and responsiveness. Regardless, good news.
