Re: 270 Volvo Penta

I'll find an exploded parts diagram, might take a day or two. Send me an e mail to remind me. I dont recall the specific how to right off the top of my head.

Re: 270 Volvo Penta

It involves taking the drive off and the bolts (allen heads) are inside the drive shaft bellows. You will have to take apart the universal joint and drive shaft to get the piece off. The problem in just buying a replacement part is that the piece along with certain shims (thin rings) hold the race and upper gear in place and everyone is different meaning they all have to be measured for clearance and shimmed accordingly. Not really a backyarder thing. Real tight tolerances. I know this because my helmet bolt hole is striped out and I needed to do this myself. I elected fill the striped out hole with a brass plug taped out to what I needed. It wasn't by the book but it has worked for three years now. I don't think you have that option. Do your self a favor and pick up a manual “Clymer Volvo stern drive manual B770” It will tell exactly what to do in much more detail.
