25hp tohatsu

i have a 2001 25c3 tiller handle motor and i have the 30hp carb gasket on it and have boyseen reeds in it but the problem is it keep busting the reeds this will be the 3rd set of reeds can anybody tell me what might be causing them to break?

If the engine is really far out of time you could get kick back through the reeds. It couldn't happen on its own though. Someone would have to have really messed up the timing adjustments. Or, the reeds you are putting in are defective.

do they bust right away or after use for a day? are you installing them per direction?maybe you are tighten the screws too much?I had mine out all day yesterday and it runs great with the new reeds.

i put the first set in and they lasted about 8 months the second set that was put in was by a tohatsu dealer and they only lasted about a month and i take my boat out just about evey weekend and run it for at least 3 hours thanks for any help allen

Good thing that I saved the old ones. If mine breaks :eek:I would put them back and if I was you I would go back to the original reeds good luck.I wonder if any one else having the same issue?

FWIW, the factory reeds do seem to be more durable, and the aftermarket reeds don't seem to gain much.
