Hi guys,

Model 1025311r 1995 Mercury Outboard, 25hp tiller steer, electric start.

Had no spark today, on either coil pack. Changed plugs re verified no spark on either coil pack.

I have a green with white tracer going to pack one, green with yellow tracer going to pack two, plus the grounds. Disconnected the ground wires going to the coils verified still no spark on either coil pack. Re-attached the grounds and magically now I have a nice hot spark coming from both coils.

As I'm writing this going through it in my head I had disconnected the grounds that run from the coil to the block thinking that was a kill wire, now I'm thinking that was simply the ground wire for the coil to operate correctly, as these wires run directly from coil to ground, with no switch between.

Perhaps I had a dirty ground causing the no spark issue?

Does this issue sound like a bad ground, or perhaps a problem with the EDC box that the grn/y and grn/wht wires run too?

I had disconnected the lanyard kill switch during this whole process to rule out a bad kill switch, as well as the kill switch in the tiller handle.

I though I had this all figured out in my head now not so sure.

Appreciate the help.

The coils need to be grounded to work, follow the black/yellow wire that you disconnected from the lanyard to the switch box and you will find that it joins the kill wire from the button in the handle when goes to the box, now unplug them both at the box and check for spark if you still have no spark get the part number from the box and we can give you the ign. test.
