I have a 1985 Merc 25HP. I had trouble getting it to start so I looked under the cowling. I put in fresh gas, changed the plugs & then noticed the 'idle wire' was off where I found it laying in the motor under the starter housing. I know the curly part connects to the 'fast idle assembly' based on the parts lists but I do not know what it connects to on the back end. Please let me know what to connect the 'idle wire' to.

Also the parts lists shows the 'idle wire' as a straight wire with a 90 degree bend on each end. My 'idle wire' has a 90 degree bend on the back end with multiple-curved bends on the front end. Don't know why my wire is different.
Serial number is 0A16xxxx.

I saw several posts about the 'idle wire' but never saw a reply that told what to specifically connect it to.

Thanks, new to the forum

Re: 25HP Merc idle wire rear connection

Found a reply to Harry57 7/20/06 question "15hp merc 1985 idle wire where does it go" by hsemj. "If you look closely, there is a small rectangular hole in the arm on the trigger. It's about halfway between the body of the the trigger and the end of the arm where the spark advance linkage attaches. That wire has to be turned on its side and angled to get it in there and then it clips in to the fast idle linkage"
My Clymer book has no mention of an "idle wire" but did mention a "drag ink" in the trigger section (thanks hsemj) but does not tell how or where to connect it. Mercury service told me to look in the repair manual, that was NO help.
Can't believe my motor is untrustworthy because of the wire. I have not found anyone with a Mercury to look at their motor. I have not ben able to locate the hole mention by hsemj.

Were you able to find out where the wire connects to on the backside just under the fly-wheel?
