25hp Merc Dies when put in gear

Hi Guys, I have a mid 1990's model 25hp Mercury pull start. Problem is when motor is hot it idols and starts fine but when I put it in gear it dies. If I squeeze fuel bulb it will get it going then once revs are up it will continue to run fine. I am assuming this is a carb problem just wanted to make sure and if so is it possible to run some carb cleaner or something through it or does carb have to be removed and dismantled to clean it.

You can try a can of carb clean, but best one that is added to your fuel, as it then reaches all the parts of the carb. You should notice a difference.

Though the optimum is a full carb overhaul including the fuel pump.

Yeah, it sounds a carb problem.
