Hello Everyone,

I have the worst luck with things. I bought a 25hp Mariner and could not get it to start. So I took it to a shop and they had the boat for four weeks and they said they cleaned the carberator and replaced the water pump. So I go to take the boat out today and it started up after about eight pulls. Then when I started backing up it kind of jumped or something and then when I put it in forward it would not really accelerate it was maybe going 5mph all the way turned up. Before when I took it out it was going probably 25 or 30mph. So I don't know what the ---- is going on. Does anyone know what would cause this to happen? And what would need to be fixed?

Is the engine reving high and you are just not moving fast? Could be a spun prop hub.

Make sure all the throttle linkages are working and attached. With the cowling off, turn the throttle and make sure the lever for the spark advance (near bottom of flywheel) is moving and that the throttle shutters in the carb throats are starting to open.

By the way I completely forgot to mention when I was backing up the gearshifter kept popping out of reverse and then when I shifted it to forward it wouldn't go fast. I'm thinking it could be something not tightened down on the gearshifter or something like that. I think that mechanic I went was trying to sabotage me because I kept calling to see what was taking so long

it took them four weeks to do a 1-2 hour job....replace impeller, and spray some carb cleaner in the carb?

I hate to see how much they charged you for all of that if it took them four weeks
