I just purchased this motor and was told that it is a 1983. It is a tiller now, and I use it as a tiller, but looks like it probably was a remote steer. Is this normal? Did they come with both options? I took it out for the first time and it seems to run great except for a couple issues.

1st: It seems to idle a little rough. Is this normal?

2nd: When I get it wide open it goes good until it reaches top speed then it starts to cut in and out occasionally. Any ideas as to what this could be?

3rd: As mentioned I use it as a tiller and when I take my hand off the throttle it immediately goes back down to idle speed. It makes trolling hard. Is this normal? Can I adjust something to keep the throttle in any position without having to hold it?

Thank you for any and all help

yes it is normal, I have a couple of those old ones with the steering adapters with the tiller still active ...... 1. & 2. take your carb off give it a propper clean and blow out with compressed air (change the impellar while your at it) ........ 3. there is a screw or bolt you can tighten to make the throttle stick, either on the side orunder the tiller .......

Thanks for the tips. I will get into it as soon has I have a little time. I did look for the screw or bolt to make the throttle stick but can not find it.
