25hp Evinrude Question

I have a 1981 25hp evinrude I just bought and am looking it over and saw a loose wire. Where does the wire (shown in picture) attach to and what is it for? The motor seems to run fine without it....

it's a ground wire and does not look factory.

does the electric start work? if not it could be the ground for the solenoid.

The starter works, everything seems to work good. Is there any chance I could do harm to the motor by just removing this wire?

Looks like a ground point someone added to test something. It's not being used now so you can remove.

Some solenoids have 2 small studs for wires to fasten to. One goes to the positive wire on the starter and the other
should connect to the wire that you have that is not attached to anything.
