Does anyone have any comments regarding the pros and cons of which boat would be better to buy? Either would suit my needs/wants.

Both are great boats. The 22 would be better for pulling, the 25 for overnight and cruising

The 25' rig will need more water, it will draft more than the 22.

If both are suitable, then EZ is right about looking at the power to make the decision.

Replacement cost for a trailer for the 25' will be much higher too, if the trailer is older.

Decisions, decisions:D Good luck to ya!

Well, you already have the 22 foot Islander. With a 22 foot Chief there may be just a little overlap in usage

So, 25 footer it is

Unless of course you are just into collecting Starcrafts (which I know you are) then you'll need one of each.;):D

Have fun!

I was looking at a 25 ' Chieftain with two 140 hp motors - (mercruiser) - cost $7500.00 - excellent condition. I was also looking at a 22' with a 165 hp 6 cyclinder motor - cost $1000.00 but it has to be gone through. Any thoughts?

If everything is in excellent condition i would go with the 25 footer. Twin inboards would be pretty sweet to :D. As Jas said you already have a 22 footer so this would go nicely with your fleet. After restoring the 22 footer you could easily have over the 7500 asking price of the 25 depending on what all needs done.

I guess my question is, whatcha buying it for? Is the 22 footer not meeting your needs? Or, are we simply collecting Starcrafts?

I'd love to have a 25/26 footer! Basically for the additional space it would give me to haul around more people. But, it's just a want and there is no way I can justify having a 22 and a 26. Death by wife's spatula. Man, what a slow and painful way to go.

Twin Merc 140 I/O sounds like a real nice setup. Twice the fun EZ would really like to own a boat with two I/O motors so don't let him beat you to the punch:D

Does it have counter-rotating props?

Re: 25' Starcraft Chieftain vs 22' Starcraft Chieftain

Well the 25' Chieftain I was looking at was sold out from under me. I moved to slow on it. So, I have found a 22' one that needs to be restored and will decide over the next day or so if I will buy it or not.

Does anyone have any comment how a 22' Islander handles compared to a Chieftain. I have a 1971 Islander with a 140 hp 4 cylinder mercruiser. The Chieftain I am considerind buying is a 1975 with a 165 hp 6 cylinder.

Thanks for the imput.
