See if there's any side play on the upper crank bearing by grabbing the flywheel (motor not running) and pushing it back and forth. There should be virtually no movement. Then turn the flywheel back and forth. There'll be some slight knocking sounds, but it shouldn't be much.<br /><br />Must have a bad stator. Remove the yellow wires from the rectifier and check for continuity. I don't have the spec, but if there's continuity between the wires, it's probably good. Unless it's shorted to ground. Next test is to see if there is any continuity between the yellow leads and ground. If there is, it's bad.
