After reading many post on this and getting confused on how to change the timing from 20 to 25 degrees I have come to the conclusion that to do this conversion I need to

1- Change Gasket behind carby
2- Make sure throttle is opening all the way by adjusting stopper(This automatically advances timing to 25 degrees)

That's it

If someone can confirm this that would be great . I cannot see how you change the timing position as per markings on motor from 20 deg to 25 deg without altering the advancer arm rod length as shown in picture below. Most posts say not to alter this at all?

Luis does a lot of these. Yes, you need the 30 hp gasket, and must confirm that the throttle is fully opened at WOT. While at WOT, just confirm timing is at 25. If not, adjust the rod so that the mag is at 25 when the carb is wide open. In the Factory service manual, follow the setting procedure for the 30 hp model when setting link and sync adjustments.

Yep, what Paul stated. At 20 deg carb roller should rest at 3/4 cam's lenght, right on goove, when moving stopper A screw CCW will see how roller travels to cam's farthest left portion, mating surfaces mark should match 25 deg stamped on timing plate.

A good adjustment is, hold left carb pawl resting at furthest up position, adjust stopper screw distance enough as to hear a light bang when cam hits roller while throtelling back and forth toward wot position.

Once there adjust stopper nut tight. If having too much throtttle over actuation, will end wearing throttle plastic parts prematurely specially when roller is constantly working on high hill of cam. Lube all throttle plastic parts that rolls on axis with an oil drop.

No Title

I have changed gasket and checked throttle position and found that it goes to wide open throttle without having to adjust stopper. I took some photos with throttle wide open so you guys could check to see if it looks alright.
The timing seems to be between 20 to 25 deg (I think)

Have seen factory delivered 25 HP engines set at 20 and 25 deg, if already at 25 just change carb gasket. You have to be standing and looking front of both mating surfaces in straight line so to check if mark imatches 25 deg on timing plate. If not looking straight will show a misplaced mark.

Do you hear a light cam/roller bang when throtelling toward wot ? Carb left pawl must be raised as explained earlier so to hear it banging between each other before adjusting timing plate so throttle and advance timing can be set spot on.

If standing, looking position is ok, need to play with upper small rod, shorting its gap untill timing plate advances and position itself on middle mating rurfaces in a stright line at 25 deg.
