I have a 1977 25 hp jonhson that will not
start if temp. is below 45 deg.f. If temp is above 45 deg f. is runs like a top. Plugs are
new, gas is good. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: 25 hp jonhson

The only thing I can think of is ignition system failure. It my not be due so much to temp., but moisture. Which I guess is related. I would get a manual and preform ingnition system tests. paying special attn. to leaks/shorts.

Is the choke working?? Does it have a primer circuit?? Have you pumped the bulb until firm??

I dout it is a spark problem but so easy to check just makes since to check it. Gap a old plug to 3/8 of a inch, put a plug wire on it make sure base grounded, crank engine and check for spark.

Squirt a shot or two of fuel mix in carb and try it. If it fires you know it choke or primer.
