You can move weight around, or just remove some weight. Also you may not be reaching enough RPMS at WOT. You need a tach to find that out. Make sure the motor length matches the transom. If the motor is the right length you can play with the tilt pin to see if that helps. Also a jackplate that moves the motor back and up should give you more speed.

Why can't you compete with the other 25s out there. Yours is as good as any of them get a tach and see what your rpms at wot are. If you are loading down the boat you could be over propped. All outboards have to be within =/- 10% of there rated hp so the most a 25 can put out is 27.5 hp. Unless they are modified.

Find a later 30 or 35 and swap the cowl, it will yield about 2 more mph. Easier than swapping manifolds, carbs, reeds, reed stops. Probably cheaper too

still say you should consider a tiller extension (articulated style) to get yourself into the center of the hull, or consider putting in steering and remote. I had a little 12 foot Starcraft with a '57 10, center steering -- fast rig that would take 16' jon boats (crabbers) most of the time. Of course, they were carrying a little bit of gear with them....

Because one year tohatsu came out with a Mega 25 (i dont know why) but the mega 25 was actually a 40hp outboard with legal 25hp serial #'s. so yeah..

Just ordered a tachometer today will keep yall updated with the rpms. The boat is a 1648 lowe with a wooden floor and deck build. It generally be loaed down with two guys myself(170lbs) and my freind (same weight) and gear(40lbs) give or take. I will take the boat out this weekend with my buddy and gear and get a reading on the rpms for yall. As of right now the engine is completely stock.

Still has to be rated at 25 hp or it is illegal in the U.S. On that note your motor is a de-tuned 35 hp. Evinrude called there 9.9 a gt 10 for a while. Mercury called their motors XDs it is just a name.
