I have a 2010 Evinrude etech, electric start that had not been started in about 1 1/2 years until today. Probably has 2 hours run time since the vapor separator was replaced. Engine started and idles ok for about 1 minutes, then when I gave it throttle it was slow to respond but did rev up and pump water. After about a minute of revving it and slowing it back down, it stalled and died. Could not get it to restart. Gas is getting to the }fuel in" line on he vapor separator coz I can push the "tire valve" looking thing and pump the gas line bulb and gas comes out of the valve. Let it sit for 3 hours and still nothing, I pulled the top spark plug and checked for spark. Good spark. Sprayed engine starting fluid in the plug hole, re installed plug and tried it, It hit , but did not run. Please dont tell me that expensive VS is bad again !! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

sounds like it is running out of fuel ...
if filters are ok , lift pump working vent is open and working on the tank, plugs firing you will need to check that fuel reaches the injectors

what about the tank primer bulb any changes if you do the pumping while it runs ? if OK then the round lift pump not working. Looks like a common B&S round pump $20. If bad try a new one not the $200 one !!!

some VST have small conical filters on the return line from the injectors
can't see them on the parts layout for that VS but neither were they shown on the 2005 VST but they exist.

check all fuel lines for deterioration /crumbling

check in to the ETEC user board I2 section for expert help and good search tool . Maye somebody else had the same issue as you

just in case and btw lift pump output should be 2 p.s.i to the vst and high pressure pump to injectors should be 28-32 psi

Was the motor prepped for long term storage or was fuel left in it for 1 1/2 years?

Fuel was left in it. Was stored at my sons and he had used it after prepped for storage without saying anything about it. Motor cranked right up and ran about a minute or so- then died.

Thanks for all the suggestions !!!

I don’t know much about the Etec motors but I would guess old fuel could be your problem. May need to clean the injectors and get some fresh fuel running though it.

before pulling injectors and messing up things on a ..fairly young engine try some Evinrude engine cleaner .. it may take a few trials to work it in the engine piping and all but don't rush into $$$$ repairs to fast .

you have ignition you have oxygen...all you need is fuel to reach those cyl.

check LED on the EMM report back
All LED lights are working like they are supposed to. I am going to go to Autozone and get a fuel pressure gauge test tool. I took the VSP apart and all the filters were clear. I soaked it overnight in gas and 2 stroke oil at abouyt 100 to 1 mix as I had read that it might help. Put it back on and squirted a little starter fluid in the plugs holes. It hit and ran about 2 seconds and died. I gtook the top off the VSP and pumped the bulb and gas is getting into the vsp from the fuel line. Actually had gas in the VSP . I suspect the fuel pump motor is not pumping. Is there a way just to buy the pump motor and not an entire VSP? If so, where can you get one? Thx for any help

Oh I forgot to mention, I drained the gas tank and gas line to the motor and replaced with new gas. I also unhooked the fuel line before it goes into the VSP and pumped the bulb to make sure any old gas was drained from the lines.

I checked the fuel pressure at the valve on the inlet and I am getting zero psi. Where else do you check ? I dont see any other valves to put the tester on.

Those 25hp Etechs are notorious for needing to replace the fuel pumps. The LESS you use them, the more often you seem to have to replace the pumps. We needed to replace the pump on our Fire Department's Etech with only 9.2 hours on the engine. The dealer told me that is not uncommon. They had replaced one a week earlier that they replaced 2 years earlier with 2 hours of use.

Your dealer can put it on their computer to tell you if the pump is working or not.

I guess I don't understand the configuration of the fuel system. Is the "fuel pump" housed within the VSP and if so is it replaceable? Is that different than the " Fuel lift pump" ? Where is the fuel lift pump located? Is it behind the oil tank, coz I don't see anything that looks like a picture of one. If the pump in the VSP is replaceable, can someone send me a link to one that will work, please???

  • the motor has 2 pumps one is called the lift pump used to fill the VST at 2psi ..just follow the incoming fuel line it will bring you to the LIFT pump... fancy name for aka "fuel pump" to pull fuel out of the tank
  • After passing via the VST to separate the vapors /air from the fuel... the VST passes the fuel over to the high pressure pump to feed the injectors at about 32 psi . Follow the injector fuel hose backwards to the high pressure pump.
here are a few pics from the 2011 manual (you should get one)

you do not have many options.... first thing is to get a log dump from the EMM to check fault codes. Could be bad HP pump.... bad 55 volt supply etc...

fuel pressure to the injectors must be tested. see all the horror stories on the 25hp hp pumps

from one post at the ETEC user board ...

The separator is easy to disassemble. (4 external screws and 2 internal). And it has a Delphi 28128525 pump installed. Which is not sold separately. see above info from amazon !!!
So the pump in the Amazon link will work on this motor? If so, Great !! I have had the thing apart twice and I can replace it and save $275. Please verify that this is the correct one and I will order it !!
