Hi Folks i'm new here and hoping some one can help me, i have a 25hp EL Mercury 2 stroke with electric start and trim/tilt. I'm not the brainiest when it comes
to motors but i can find my way with the help of others, my problem is that my trim/tilt won't work but yet the relays buzz when i push the up/down control and it wont start when using the starter button i just get alot of clicking from the solanoid (it starts first pull with the pull start).
please help, i want mud crab for dinner tomorrow nite.
Thanks Murph.

Check and see if you have a neutral safety switch. Find the starter solenoid and follow the yellow with red tracer wire that leaves the solenoid to the switch. The switch has to be depressed to start the engine. As far as the trim goes I would disconnect the "green" and "blue" wires from the relays that go to the trim pump and test the pump for operation. Put 12 v + to blue and 12v - to green perferably another battery. The pump is going draw some amperage so you will need to use as heavy gauge wire as you can. Just don't let the - and + touch! This will verify if the pump operation. And for best results give you serial number along with your model number.

With the trim relays buzzing and the motor not turning over, sounds like 2 possibilities. Battery is low or cables are loose or need connections cleaned.

One battery, right?

Welcome aboard, murph.

I agree. Start solenoid clicking is a symptom of a dead battery or bad battery connections.

Thanks guys, i tested everything u said and still was getting 12.4v every where, i contacted my nephew last night and he got me on the right track
with a multi meter, after a few test of the pwr coming in and out of the solenoid, i went back to the main pwr wires coming from the battery,
i cut open the out skin all the way separating the neg /pos cables and found what he called, "green death", the wires wern't broken rite through.
I was still reading 12.4v at the other end but just wasnt putting enough current through. New set of cables this morning and problem solved!
Thanks again for your info. MURPH
