I have an 1986 Bayliner Capri with a 4 cyl onboard. I want to use a 24v trolling motor. Is there a way to charge the 24v battery with the 12 v alternator? Probably should have posted this on the electronics forum.

As Ted posted, you need a DC to DC Buck/Boost converter.

Look at the specs to make sure you don't kill your alternator

Gee, why not connect the batteries in parallel for charging, and in series for running the trolling motor? I would think a battery switch would be able to do that.

This is funny!...........How bout just using a good ole "On-Board Alternator" 2 bank charger? Here's Minn Kota's

It is dc-dc, yes and Minn Kota doesn't call it that, although technically that's is its internal design type. But more-over, this thing is designed for specifically charging batt's and not just a dumb stick constant voltage @ some rated output current (12V in to 24V @ 5A out for example) dc-dc power supply.
