I have 12v battery system with 2 battery banks consisting of 2 batts each bank in parallel. I am looking at a 24v input inverter/charger for some a/c power and shore power in my boat. Is there a way to make it work with one of my battery banks (wired to inverter 24v) and still leave it connected as house batteries for eng/lights etc.. I know I can wire the batts on one side in series for 24volts but then when I switch over to that bank(or forget to switch it back)I would be trying to start the engine with 24v which I don't think is good. Also how would the charger effect all this if I some how got everything wired together. Any info would be very helpful. I hope this isn't too confusing-
