The 18ft boards on our trailer have rotted. There are 4 boards that we must replace. We cannot find boards in this length. What is the correct method to replace these boards? Is this a DIY project? Thanks

If they are just the runners that the toons are sitting on, the should be either 2X4 or 2X6. Usually getting a few peices, and cutting them so that the joint sits right on top of one of the supports. This is definitily a DIY project.

Belchy

Re: 24 foot pontoon trailer

I did mine about two months ago. I would replace the boards with a wider bouard than what came on the trailer. If it has 2x4 replace with 2x6, if it has 2x6 replace with 2x8. This makes it so much easyer to line up when you are loading. If you make a joint/splice make sure it's over a support of the frame. Good luck, should take about a afternoon to complete.

Thanks for the help. It sounds like we can handle this. Currently the boards are 2x4, so will definatley look at replacing with 2x6 and following your advice about joint at support points.
