I was curious if anybody knows the power requirements for a '98 Sea Ray, with a 7.4 MPI Bravo3 drive? The reason I ask, is that our alternator went out a while ago while we were running a large stereo (what I term a large stereo, 1500 Watts RMS plus the head unit requirements). And since the stereo was so large we were unable to keep up with the existing 65amp Mando style alternator and instead powered the stereo of 2 Optima batteries that we would simply recharge everynight. Now, however, due to engine problems I have to pull all the stereo equipment out and wanted to know if down sizing the stereo to 1 amp at 444 Watts RMS will be feasible to run off of the 65amp alternator? Or would the best thing be to remove all the amps altogether and just run a stereo off the head unit? I have thought about taking the alternator off and having it rewound, but I guess I also do not know how big to go? Any help would be great as to the base power requirements for the boat without a stereo are expected to be?
