I have a 1999 that does not start easily when lowered after it has been raised out of the water, takes so much cranking that I have to use a battery booster. After a lot of tries it eventually starts. If it was left in down position it starts easily. Once started it runs like it should as long as it was not raised. Just replaced the fuel filter and fuel line since it sounds like its not getting fuel. Did not think it was a spark problem since it runs great once started. Have also replace the batteries.
Thanks for any ideas that might be the cause?

Welcome to iboats.

After cranking remove plugs and see which cylinder(s) are not getting fuel. Open the carb up and inspect/clean/rebuild, float sticking?

There are NO carbs on a FICHT DFI motor.

Check the starter assist circuit and module per the service manual. Also use a digital voltmeter attached to the starter post and to ground. Make sure the starter motor has at least 10 volts while cranking the motor for 5 seconds. If voltage is below about 9.6V, the engine computer may be turning on and off because of the low voltage and slow cranking rpm

Re: 225hp evinrude ficht cold starting issue??

I do get plenty of cranking rpms at first, it usually starts 1st try if the motor was left in down position in the water overnight. Problem occurs when the motor has been tilted up for the night and then lowered to start the next day. I had thought it was fuel related, and replaced the filter, primer bulb, and fuel line. Once it starts it starts easy all day as long as the motor has not been tilted up. Thanks for the advise on where to look next, if you can think of anything else please let me know.
