I have an 05 225 Suzuki stroke outboard. The motor on inital start up will high idle and shut itself off. This is done in about 2 seconds. I have taken it to a dealer who does not have a diagnostic computer. He is, like I have seen on most of these posts, "throwing parts at it ". He has replaced the fuel pump and another switch that I cant remember. If you force the throttle forward on start up it will run, and once it is running it will run fine as long as you want until you turn it off by the key. Then it will not start up unless you force the throttle and give it gas. Any ideas, it has been in the shop for a month and there are no dealers close by with a diagnostic computer. Any help is appreciated. I want to go fishing!

You need to find a better dealer. That is one of the easiest problems to fix - in fact if the dealer knew what he was doing when he installed the engine, you would not have this problem. It has nothing to do with the engine - it is all in how the boat's battery system is installed. It can be any one or a combination of the following problems: improper battery capacity, improper battery cable size (if battery cables had to be extended), incorrect placement of the battery sub wire, poor battery sub wire connection. Your dealer has access to all this information.

You might be on to something. I have a Hummingbird GPS and for no reason it has been reading low voltage on the screen at random times. I have not been able to trace down the problem. I have a two battery system with a 2 way swith and all the wires seem to be run correctly and nothing is loose. what else should I check? I also have a two battery charging system for the trolling motor but it is run seperate. If anyone can tell me what to look for I would appreciate this. I have lost all confidence in this dealer, but no one else works on Suzuki where I'm located.

I have an 03 225, that had the exact same problem. It would not run below 1500 rpm until it got warm, then it would run fine until you shut it off again. Changed all three fuel filters, all had black residue in them, checked the fuel line from the tank to the engine, the outside looked fine but the inside was comming apart and shedding small black particles, changed the fuel line and primer bulb. This solved the problem and I have had no more trouble. You could have the same problem with your engine. I had a dealer tell me the gas we buy is the only thing that keeps the service department business now days.
