225 Optimax Hesitates on Hole shot

I recently purchased a boat with a 2000 225 Optimax.
When taking off it tends to hesitate out of the hole. What I mean is I'll start out slowly and then gun it and it seems like it takes a little bit for it to actually go the full throtle. Once it kicks in it jumps up on plane and runs great. It is still running on the same gas I bought it with (about a half a tank). This tank did sit over the winter, but was put up for storage by a dealer. So could this just be that a lot of stable was added and I should burn more of this gas out and replace the plugs and filler her up.
Thanks for any help.

Re: 225 Optimax Hesitates on Hole shot

I just got the boat last week and only had it out twice now.
I'd have to open the cover again and check the color of the injectors.
I'll pull the cover tonight and check

It's on a 620 Ranger. I've had other boats, none as heavy as this one, but none of them have had the amount of hesitation as this. I wasn't sure if that is how the 225 is suppose to react or not. Other then the hole shot she starts right up and runs real smooth through out the range.

i'd get rid of the gas, could have been there 2 years. clean the injectors, new plugs, fresh, gas, with seafoam, added.

Thanks
I don't think the gas is too old, but you never know and it did sit over the winter.
Do you think a Mid-Grade fuel would be good enough or
should I run the high octane?

Re: 225 Optimax Hesitates on Hole shot

I just read where an OEM indicated that gas can go bad in 6 weeks. Finally an official answer to rumors that have been floating around. Dump the fuel like your were advised.

Hesitation on acceleration is inadequate fuel for the applied load.

Other thing you might do is look to see if the prop is ported........after you dump the old fuel.

If not ported, take it to a prop shop and have it ported. Ports let the engine overrev during hole which develops the hp fast and gets you up fast. Developed especially for heavy arsed bass boats trying to get on plane. Once up and running they close off and you don't know they're there.

Thanks again
First thing I'll try is removing the old Gas as suggested.

Well changed out the fuel and plugs checked the fuel filter too and she was clean. Still have the same problem on the hole shot. I don't know that I want to mess with the injectors.
Prop is ported already.

I've had the same problem on a 2000 200EFI... Some days it does it, some days is doesn't. I've been told TPS. (changed, same problem) Fuel (changed, same problem) Inj and fuel system completely gone thru... Cannot be replicated on Dyno... only in water.. Local tech hasn't figured it out and is growing tired of messing with it (so am I) If you figure it out let me know..

Re: 225 Optimax Hesitates on Hole shot (Still)

Still have the same problem, but not sure if this could be the problem. As one of the resposes stated the engine is staving for fuel.
I have a 9.9 kicker on the boat that is run off the same fuel line with a T connection after the bulb. I tried disconnecting the kicker fuel line and it seemed to help a little bit.
Would it make sense to install a valve or another bulb between the T and the kicker. Also do you think a stabilizer may help? The other thing I thought of doing was to remove the plastic inserts on the ports of the prop. They aren't solid, but I thought it may open up the holes a little more if removed.
Any Thoughts???????
