Honda has always been excellent at standing behind their products. Even though your motor is past its warranty period they might help you since a major failure like a cracked block should not be expected to ever happen during normal usage of a well maintained motor. When their BF130 motors started developing cracked blocks they replaced affected powerheads free of charge and extended the warranty on those motors.

Suggest you have your Honda dealer contact his regional service manager and see what they'll do to help you. Let us all know what happens.

Re: 225 honda (2002) seized engine

Dear Steve,

I have a 2002 Honda 225 with a cracked block. 2" hairline crack on port side behind fuse panel. It seeps oil, uses about 1 quart oil between 100 hour oil changes. It is located in area that does not effect compression or performance. Mine was out of warranty also. Honda factory rep said he has never heard of a crack in BF225 blocks, and doesn't know what caused mine to crack. I maintain my motor by the book. Use in freshwater only. Honda rep said they're not responsible. I've been researching to see if anyone else has had cracked block on their 225 Honda. I found Coast Guard-Charleston and private person in VA Beach who had saltwater corrode completely through thermostat housing on port side, but your the first person with a cracked 225 I've found other then myself, but yours sounds much worse. I found your message through a "Google search" and registered when I saw you?re posting. If Honda IS having problem with cracks in engines like ours, we need to try to get them to take care of it the same as the BF 130 owners. Maybe we can help each other out. I'm new to forums, but I've been in boats most of my 48 years. I will look for your reply in next few days.

Has anyone else had a similar problem on their Honda BF 225????

What kind of warrenty on the rebuild?? Also rebuild could be good, but still new with warrenty if you are not a machanic it maybe better to purchase the newer one.

One big question is can you afford it?? That is a 7k diffrance in price..

I agree with cp steve I would definately contact them either through your dealer or if I was in your shoes i'd go straight to the source and get in contact with honda marine quite often dealers can get a bit funny about these things but if you ring tech assistance at honda they'll either tell you to go through your dealer or they may take some sort of action themselves, I haven't dealt with honda before but I Know its a great company and I think that as a customer of their's it would be in their interests to get you back on the water as soon as possible. Either way I hope they help you out with this mate and would like to know the outcome "Keep us posted".

CRACKED BLOCKS AND PORT CYLINDER HEADS ARE not unheard of
but i would get in touch with HONDA NATIONAL customer relations
what is unheard of is any one that has a cracked block or cylinder head that has cracked from any thing other than some sort of impact .HAS NOT GOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM HONDA

If you are the original owner of the motor there is just no way i can see them not standing behind the motor even if its out of warranty they will do some thing for you at least some of the major parts ect.
seen it many times in the past
just have to get the rite person on the phone
get the motor to a honda certified warranty station and then call customer service
they will call the dealer for a report
