I have a 1996 Evinrude 225. The airbox has been removed. Is there a company that i can purchase aftermarket jets from since BRP only offers the stock jetting for it? Or can someone tell me what size to drill them? I've been running 32:1 with no problems but it does run alot leaner without the airbox. Thanks. Keith

Why not install a stock airbox? Are you trying to increase the power?

No I got the motor the way it is. The only motor i have to compare it to is a friend of mine. He has a 96' Johnson 200. My motor runs real lean. Sometimes to the point where it tries to die in transition from idle to wide open. I'll prime it and it takes off. Now the reason for mixing it 32:1 is because i pulled all 6 plugs and they were a real light tan color. I am gonna have to change the jetting anyways when i install my lightweight cowl and pan with the air holes. Removing the airbox i don't believe would add any power but they sure sound good. LOL....Keith

Re: 225 Evinrude Jetting

I wish, its a 17ft balsa wood 680 lbs hull with 6 inch reversed jackplate w Merc 225, Xr4 lower unit,28 pitch Triton II, Gps 91.4 mph only fun on smooth water, most of the time its run around 60-70 mph. Removing air box on your engine will add about 5hp as it is the thin restrictive style. What size jets you running now??? With air box removed go up .002. Is reliefs plugged in cylinders? What are casting # on your heads?? High speed jetting will not cause it to be lean on hole shot. Do sync & link first, then check idle screws on carbs, factory setting is close to 5 3/4 from a light seat. Mid range jets sould be a .024 or.026 as factory .028 & .032 suck and will not work(service bulletin) I just plug mine with tooth picks and break off ( I DONT USE MIDRANGE) and carbs have modified pullovers. If you need any help on this pm me and will give ya mobile # to call
