225 evinrude 1995

Motor running fine at 3500rpm for about 1/4 to half mile and shut down.
Will restart and idle all day long. Looking for some direction if this electronic or mechanical? Thanks for any direction.

check spark on each cylinder..check compression on each cylinder...test over heat alarm by grounding them sensor wire out on the block with the ignition key turned to the on position, be sure do to both heads. then check fuel pump..check all fuel hoses/connections...then clean/rebuild carbs...do a link and sync...my money is on the fuel pump...

Problem solved Pulled thermostats.
Every thing else working fine.
I remember had same issue with 115 yamaha.
Easy fix.

if that fixed your problem then your over heat alarm is not working, I would fix it if I was you. and I would put new t-stats in and make sure the problem is solved.
