My wife and I just found an amazing deal on a new 204SSi that we could not pass up. The down side is it only has a 4.3 engine 190hp. I have not been able to take the boat out yet due to weather, am I going to be terriblly disappointed?

I figure I could repower the boat with a 5.7 if I had to but, lets hope not. All thoughts would be appreciated.

I personally think that that is precisly the reason you can get it for such a great deal. If you are not going to load the boat down, (But who dosent sometimes), you may be happy with it, but what I have read about that particular boat is that people are saying to get the 5.7 even over the 5 so I would count the 4.3 out.

That's obviously the base engine for that boat. And I am surprised that Chap would put 190hp in a 20' boat. You will be sorely disappointed in it's performance in anything other than light load situations. As far as re-powering, why would you do that on a new boat? Just find one from the factory with a 5.7 installed!

The 204LE model of your boat performs well with the 205 hp v6. Read my other post on this subject. 52 mph top end, excellent accleration with a vented propeller. Evidently the LE is lighter however. It weighs 2600 lbs.

I think all of you are right, that is what I am afraid of. The boat listed for $32,000, I bought it for $16,000. A deal that was just to hard to pass up.

Thank all for replies!

You're welcome. Enjoy it as much as you can. And when the day arrives that it's just not powerful enough, do a search in the engines/drives thread, and you'll find several posts on how to liven up a 4.3. Or how to change to a 5.7!

Sounds like an excellent deal for a Chap! There will still be a lot you can do with it.

I am looking at the same boat. The actual horsepower was unclear but it was a v-8 5.0L 260hp engine. although i might be wrong. I was just wondering, Is 28,000 a good price for this boat? it has a lot of extras and is a 2005. I want to get the guy down to at most 25,000. How far do you guys think that i can get him down to?

thanks, for any help

You never posted how the boat ran with that motor.

Are you still around?
