2020 Nascar - Daytona Road Course

[GA_Boater]

For the first time ever Nascar will be racing on the Daytona road course usually used for races like the Daytona 24. Trucks, X-Men and Cup are on the asphalt this weekend. No practice or qualifying makes iFL picks a crap shoot. It isn't much of a road course, it has a shortish infield section and two chicanes meaning most of the racing is on the oval.

Good thing it's a road course cuz there will be rain tires and wipers. Summertime on the Florida coast means afternoon or scattered thunderstorms and that's the forecast. MRN's schedule and track layout;

• Harvick is on the pole using Nascar's new golf scoring. The finishing position in the last race, fastest lap time and owner points are weighted and the lowest total is on pole, next lowest is second and so on.
• Erik Jones is out and Christopher Bell is in the Gibbs #20 next year.
• Fun Fact - Kevin Harvick has completed 5804 of 5806 laps this season (99.97%), more than any other driver. All but two laps!
• Nascar is still talking about mid-week racing next year. Don't know why unless it's to shorten the season.
• Leavine Family Racing has been sold to Spire Motorsports. Spire will expand to 2 teams next year.
• Spenser Davis is back from COVID quarantine to drive in the Truck race.
• TV ratings;
  • Michigan 1, Saturday - Rating: 1.01 with 1.548M viewers - No race to compare from last year.
  • Michigan 2. Sunday - Rating: 1.43 with 2.37M viewers - No race to compare from last year.

  • Saturday at Michigan - justkiddin 5 won his 2nd race this year. Congrats, JK5. :first:
  • Sunday at Michigan - aspeck (Smokin'1) took his 3rd :first: home. Congrats, 'speck.
• After the Michigan double header, FlaCowboy is still the overall leader. He dropped out of 1st with Saturday's race, but recovered after the Sunday race. With only 4 races left in the regular season, just 12 points separate the top two.

Green for first ever Nascar race on the Daytona road course.

Chastain broke the transmission, then teammate Haley plowed the grass and tore up the front end. 1st yellow.

Hemric got shoved off track on the restart and hit the barrier head on in the twisty bits, he wasn't going very fast but the front end is dinged up pretty good, then was stuck in the grass for a while.

Cindric won the first heat. They aren't driving very fast, it took 40 minutes for 15 laps.

At start of heat #2, 2 cars off track in the grass and 2nd car hit the tire wall for the yellow. Two separate incidents, but one after the other.

Yellow again after a couple of good saves, the third left parts scattered for the flag.

Briscoe won heat 2. It was a heck a battle with Cindric on the last lap of the heat.

Yellow for Bamber going straight through the apex of a turn, ran in the grass and into the tire barrier. Left a lot of parts on the track.
