Hi, I bought a 2019 Yamaha 70 hp 4 stroke (used in saltwater for 6 hours). The marina took out all the 4 cycle oil so I can transport home. But, I totally forgot about it.
I was so excited and hooked up everything to start it and run it at idle speed for about 10 minutes to try to rinse out the salt on water hose. The remote control alarm started sounding, so I shut it off after about 5 -10 seconds.
I started it up again, and the alarm sounded again. It dawned on me that the motor has no 4 cycle motor oil - Oh oh.
So, I added 2.2 quarts motor oil and tried to start it. But, I was not able to start it after 2 cranks. Maybe the oil pump was not sensing the oil level has risen to normal? Maybe the remote control or F70 has a computer need to be over-ridden so I can start it again. I did see my Raymarine Axiom MFD displayed a message stating motor is shutting down when I turned the key to ON (I didn't dare to RUN it after seeing the error message). But, after a minute I decided to crank and start the motor again but no luck. Please help!
Please help. It is under warranty, but not sure whether they will cover my stupid mistake.
I am proposing to do the followings before I take it to the Yamaha dealership, please let me know if you agree or disagree and what would you do:
(1) unscrew all 4 spark plugs and pour motor oil in them and wait for 24 hours and try to start it again.
(2) Turn the crank shaft to see whether I can UN-freeze it if step 1 failed.
(3) any suggestions?
(4) take it to the dealership
