Starting with Cup, X-Men and Truck in action at Dover this weekend, Nascar has made changes to qualifying for all 3 series. Group qualifying is dead and single car Q-ing for ovals is back. Road courses will continue to qualify using the group format. Tracks shorter than 1.25 miles will have two stages with the top 12 in the final round. Longer track over 1.25 miles will be a single run.

The idea behind group qualifying was to add some excitement to watching paint dry. And watching paint dry is what group Q-ing became with the final 12 car round ending up watching 12 cars sit until the last possible second to make a run. They coulda made it work if they used their heads for more than figuring out how to slow down the cars.

Cup has 37 teams on the entry list for a weekend that may have rain delays. The forecast is for possible soggy racing. :blue:

News and Notes
  • After Nascar took ADillon's trunk lid last week, he loses 10 points, his car chief is suspended for a week and his crew chief Danny Stockman got a $25k fine.
  • Nascar teams are asking Nascar and tracks to help pay for the major expense of switching to the new Gen 7 car, an unusual move that signals teams still believe the sport’s revenue distribution favors Nascar/track and teams aren't getting a fair share.
  • A fun tweet stream from Talladega - Things left behind. Some odd leavings by Dega race fans - https://twitter.com/i/moments/1122968563449462785
  • TV ratings - Fox got a 2.8, about the same as last year for Dega. The Dover race is on FS1, so ratings will probably drop.

iBoats Fantasy Live
  • Good News! No tie at Talladega. Jip has the honors and has one of these shiny things. :first: Congrats, Jip.
  • Justkiddin 5 is still the overall lead by 21 points
  • The iFL pole locks tomorrow at 3:35 PM Eastern.

Good luck everyone,

Humpty

The one and only practice before qualifying is finished.

Busch1 was the fastest with a lap of 168.445, 4 MPH than the track record set by Keso in 2014. Kurt now has a right eye with two pupils. :lol: The rest of the 5 fastest are Larson, Harvick, Byron and Blaney. BTW - 23 cars were faster than Keso's old record.

For those playing along, the iFL Pole locks at 3:35.

Matt DiBenedetto tweeted;

First practice is complete...and it feels a little unnatural driving a stock car that feels like an Indy car. Holy cow we are flying around the @MonsterMile with all this downforce

Nascar endorses gambling;

Nascar today will announce a gambling data deal with @GeniusSports, which will license/distribute NASCAR’s live data for sale to sportsbooks and develop an in-race betting product

I try, Sam. Gotta use a lot of Roundup sometimes. :smile:

Cup qualifying - Elliott has the pole followed by Byron, Larson, Joey, Bowman, Harvick, Almirola, Hamlin, Keso, Bowyer, Blaney and Johnson are the top 12.

3 Chevys lead the pack on Sunday. All 4 Hendrick cars are in the top 12, 3 Penske Fords, 3 SHR Fords, 1 Gibbs Toyota and 1 Ganassi Chevy. No Dodge Chargers this week.

Christopher Bell won the X-Race and an extra 100 grand. He won the 1st D4C race at Texas, so he has practice stuffing that big check into the ATM slot for his deposit.

iFL race locks at 2:10 Eastern tomorrow. Get those picks done in time.

Approaching 2 hours before the start of the race today. 1 o'clock tomorrow is the alternate if they can't get it in today. But we have 2 hours. :smile:

The driers were pulled off the track when rain started falling again about 30 minutes ago. :blue:

TV just showed a line of driers on the track, so maybe there is a chance. But radar shows a bunch of wet moving from the west.

There's a bunch of rain to the west. Don't think they'll get many laps in
