This sweet little motor has turned nasty. Will take easily 8 pulls of the cord to get it going, choked or not. New plug made no difference. Suspect a carb set up problem. Need a carb schematic and adjusting sequence etc. Clean gas filter and fresh gas used 87 octane.
Ideas appreciated!

Odds on to be because these wee buggers, have a nasty habit of allowing oil to find its way into the carb, after they have been transported or stored on their side. Even the correct side, that’s supposed to avoid this. Very well known issue with them. Can almost bet my life on it, that if you clean the carb well , then give it a go. It will start perfect. Will do afterwards…just as long as it’s not left on its side again. Total pain. Keeping the oil level sensible and not too full can help.

This motor is stored on the transom of the boat with the shaft vertical or on the transom in the shallow drive position. How would any oil in the crankcase get into the carb? Almost defies common design sense….

If you read back what I’ve said..you’ll likely also have then read that I’ve only given a possible and common explanation.
As for the meaning of “common design sense”… anyway…clean that carb…all will be well.
