was like that when I got it, next time I insist on sea trial , I think the mfg'r did it when installing the engine, I know that's a tall order , but I know I didn't do it

Somebody before you got it probably started the motor dry, thinking that short period of time wouldn't hurt it, but 30 seconds bone dry will overheat the impeller and longer things just get worse....I know about this from experience because I started my motor in the yard forgetting to hook up the hose and ran it maybe 30 or 40 seconds and my impeller and plastic pump housing both were overheated and starting to melt.....replaced them both for about $60.... I won't do that again!!!

Yes I think so,, when I picked the boat up it was straight from the factory , no sea trial because it was Saturday and the regular staff was off, so when I finally got to the water, put the foot underwater and started the engine, and had no tell tale, already floated off the trailer and had to paddle back to trailer, so began the saga .... its all over now and I'm happy, but I still wonder why this happened , thanks for all replies

dealt with a young a sales lady who was in the office just for us to pick up the boat, she was super nice but she knew little about the deal, all paperwork was forwarded to her that day, she had only worked there 2 weeks, not her fault ,,,, I feel like "nobody's fault but mine" ( as the song goes)

In my opinion, Yamaha should have covered this 100%, especially since the motor is brand new!..... Maybe your dealer should suggest this to Yamaha customer service...

One other item, since that impeller looks to have disintegrated, maybe back- flush the motor so pieces of impeller don't plug up your cooling system...remove thermostat and check for pieces of impeller and back-flush with water hose....may need to remove lower unit during this back-flushing
