I have a problem with my 2017 MFS40A crankshaft excessive end play. Tohatsu says the max is 0.020 but mine is 0.065 and has started to make contact with the Tach-Pickup under the flywheel. Why did Tohatsu make a disposable engine without a set of thrust bearings for the crankshaft like the older M40-50D? And is there any thing to remedy the situation outside of buying a new long block? When I had Tohatsu America on the phone I asked the guy this exact question and he had no real answer. I am going to buy some 0.020 brass shim stock and carefully generate a cone ring to fit the crankshaft to lift the flywheel away from rubbing and just let the " Hide Go With The Hair ". Run it until it strands me, then dump it in the water!

I like attitude, would really like to know if it works. Figuring something out and then letting the word get around you could be the next Billionaire

alldodge, I enjoy exposing vulnerabilities in objects because people who purchase a product deserve to know the weakness of the product when they put their hard earned money into a brand name item who in the past has had a fairly spotless record of selling a product that is known for it's reliability.
