Hello everyone,

i need help. I have a 2016 5hp Mercury outboard that does not want to start. Has run in over a year. I cleaned the carb and checked spark. Carb was plugged so I cleaned it really good and spark is also good. I tried cranking it and still no go. I sprayed the carb with starter fluid and no start either. The kill switch is good and the lanyard is connected to it. Also all the procedures are done correctly while trying to start this thing. Can some one please advise on what to do next it’s driving me crazy.
the oil level seems little bit low but within range do you guys know if this type of engine has some type of sensor that won’t make it start with low oil level? I doubt it but trying to make sure before adding more.
please someone help me

You’re on the right track I’d think.
you didn’t mention using fresh fuel and ditching the old fuel perhaps.
I’d be tempted to correct the oil level too at least.
good luck.

I would second the fresh fuel. If it’s been over a year you never know what condition the fuel is in. When it cranks, does it just crank and crank or does it sputter at times, sounding as if it is going to start?
