2015 yamaha 9.9 idle issue

My 9.9 yamaha 9.9 xpb high thrust will not stay running in neutral nor will it start in neutral. Have to throttle up to start but stalls when brought back to neutral. Makes it difficult to get into gear before it stalls. Only a year old and not a lot of use. If I can get it into gear before stalling, it will troll all day jut fine. Don't know how to determine if carb related or linkage (throttle or shift). Looked on Internet and utube but nothing on newer motor, not even a repair manual. Any help out there?

motor should not start when out of neutral.

my guess is the carbs need to be cleaned
did you let it sit up for a long time and let the gas evaporate out of the carbs gumming things up?

Actually, the motor ran fine for the first several fishing trips. Then while I was trolling, it just stalled out. Starts easily if you give it more throttle and will stay running. As soon as you try to pull it back into neutral to get in in gear, it stalls. Plugs are not fouled and look like new. Fuel filter was clean and I always buy non-ethanol gasoline.
