I have a new 9.8 four-stroke Tohatsu with 150 hours on it. It will run at speed for a few hours, then stop (fuel starved) - fuel line bulb is flat - pump it up again and all is well for a few minutes and then it starves for fuel again. Switching tanks (both new - one 3.1 gal and the other 6.6 gallon Tohatsu brand tanks) - and it will run for several hours with no issues. Outboard, fuel line and fuel are all excellent. Seems to be a connector issue at the tank fitting - perhaps not completely opening the valve and over time it closes off too much? Switching tanks seems to solve the problem. Has anyone else had a problem with the tank fittings? Mine are all brand new...

If you get a flat primer bulb, there is indeed a restriction between the bulb and the tank strainer (or the inlet check valve in the bulb itself). If it runs out of gas, and the bulb is good and plump, you probably have a vacuum leak between the bulb and fuel pump (or again a bad outlet valve in the bulb). Yes, you could have a wrong/bad tank fitting. You are in warranty. Ask your dealer.
