boat needed new battery so i purchased one with 950 cranking amps...tested volts, showed 12v...i checked all the connections from battery to the starter/solenoid they're tight and without corrosion still engine will not turn over will only click occasionally...so I thought solenoid but the electric trim also doesn't work not from console control or from engine control...suggestions?

Sounds like a flat battery .... or a bad connection .
Was the new battery delivered charged ? If it really is showing 12v then it probly needs charged . It should show better than 12.6v , 13v would be good . I know it doesnt sound much but it makes me think that the battery is flat.
Hook your volt meter to the battery and see the 12v , then hit the starter or the trim button and see what the battery voltage drops to whilst under load. it may well fall right down
If you have jumper leads you could try using another ( known good ) battery ( wife's car is always best :D ) for a boost to prove ( or not ) the fault

you may have a very OLD new battery. There is SUPPOSED to be a small stick on date label on the side of the battery. iF MISSING ? probably old battery. Should have water leveel in each cell checked . Then put on NO MORE than a to 10 amps. charge for at least 8 hours. You definitely need a ACCURATE voltmeter !! A cheapy from Harbor Freight is good enough. Enjoy
I will try to post a Part # for the meter.
Sold in stores as a......7 function Digital Meter for $5.94 now. I have several over 5 years old . ALL are excellent meters. I keep 1 on each boat / vehicle.
