Okay, just looking for some advice on where to go next... I've got a 2015 2.5hp 4-Stroke Mercury Outboard that just will not start. After much googling and searching of forums I've tried and assessed the following:
I've checked the carb - looks clean, float moves freely with no resistance at all, all looks well and appears to be working well from what I can see (minus the motor simply not starting), I've checked all the lines, made sure the choke is working, made sure the fuel vent is open, made sure there is fresh gas in the tank, checked the fuel pump to ensure fuel is moving, nothing appears damaged there from what I can see... at this point the only thing I can say that I haven't done is put a pressure meter on the fuel pump to check the PSI for the flow...
The motor will start and run for 5-15 seconds if I add fuel directly into the motor at the spark plug, after that it cuts out and won't restart unless I toss more fuel in... the main questions I have are, aside from the fuel pump not kicking out enough pressure, is there anything else that could be preventing fuel from entering the engine itself? Is there a chance the fuel pump is somehow fouled even though everything looks normal and it seems to have fuel running through it to the carb? When I test the fuel pump, what PSI am I looking for it to be pushing out? And is there something else I simply could be missing?
Sorry for the newbie questions, but 'tis my first boat, and of course my first set of problems (I acquired it recently from my father and I know the outboard was running last year but trying to start it this year has just led to frustration, haha)
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
