I took my Mercury in to the shop and found FUEL was not under warranty. The claimed my low and high pressure pick ups were gummed up due to ethanol. $1770. One year later with a water separator, treated gas, new gas lines my boat will run 6000rmp in the driveway fine. Put it in water rev it up and Engine Overspeed alarm goes off. Put it in gear and hammer it, it will not go. It idles fine, but in water will not get on plane almost as starving for gas. I worked the throttle yesterday for hours trying to see if I could break through it, never did. I bought this motor in box 2015. Really tired and finding Mercury a bad choice of motor. 24.2 hours on it.

You should stop running it up to 6000 rpm in your driveway and if you are under warranty has to go back to the dealer. If you don't get satisfaction from the dealer call mercury.

If the overspeed alarm is going off why on earth would you hammer the throttle?

Trying to void the warranty?

The specs for the motor on Mercurymarine.com state "Unleaded Regular 87 Octane Minimum (R+M/2) or 90 RON 10% Ethanol Maximum"

Call Mercury and register a complaint. That's if you have any warranty left after trying to blow it up in the driveway.
