Hello all. I recently acquired a 2012 Bennington with a 2012 Mercury 115 EFI engine. It only has 56 hours on it as the people I bought it from were older and only really used it one full season and a couple times after that. When I purchased it a couple months ago I tried to find a boat mechanic in my rural area, found one but after 6 weeks of promising he would show he ended up flaking on me completely. I am not a boat mechanic but am fairly competent in automotive. I replaced the impeller, lower end oil, engine oil and air filter (had one of the foam ones that was disintegrating). I also completely drained the fuel tank to remove any potentially bad fuel. Living in Northern California, they “oxegenate” the fuel which is nothing more than adding water . I put the boat in the water for the first time (we have a covered slip at Lake Oroville marina) and it starts and runs fine. For the most part. It idles and does low RPM well, but when I accelerate to 3/4 throttle or WOT it runs fine for a short amount of time. I haven’t timed it but am guessing 60? 90? 120? Seconds, then acts like it is starving out on fuel. If you throttle down to idle it will run, but sort of roughly. You can throttle back up but same deal.
Next step I replaced both fuel filters. They both look the same. One is just as the fuel line enters the engine housing and one is just before the injectors. I don’t really know where to go from here, the boat is moored in a covered slip and it is 100 miles to the closest mercury dealer. Any suggestions would be truly appreciated.
