Been looking at used boats but came across a brand new Crownline 21SS for $34950 with trailer. This boat normally sells for at least 43k without trail and trade in value is around 37k. I could get a rate of 3.99 on a ten year note. What do you guys think about this deal?

Sounds like a great rate but I agree with the above post ^^^^^^^ writing a check in the winter is miserable :(

If it's truly in your budget sounds good. If you are manipulating the budget keep in mind it is a depreciating asset and will not go up in value.

sounds like a killer deal. If you can handle the payment then go for it!

Trim, I replied to your PM on this. My sentiments on buying new were a mirror of Bubba and Bob.

Somebody has to buy new . . . else the rest of us won't have boats to buy in 5-10 years. :)

So $350 a month for 10 years... you will have paid retail when its all finally paid back. But if you can afford it, then go for it!

I'd hope you would pay it off sooner then 10 years... it would be like still paying for the 2002 model and making your last payment this year. The 21SS is a pretty boat!

Don't have a Grandson with a dog collar Trim......:D:D

Honestly though its all your choice, if your ok with the depreciation and monthly payment then more power to you but for your first boat I think your throwing away money. If you knew for certain this was the boat you were going to keep for ten years then it would be a whole different deal but our experience is that in a couple years you will upgrade and your going to take it in the shorts trying to unload this boat so that you can upgrade, and I'm being gentle when I say take it in the shorts too.

I have had plenty of sense kicked into me since I made this post lol. Not buying new, just got excited when I went to the boat show this weekend.

Don't let someone talk you out of what you want because they buy used or whatever. Get what you can afford and will be happy with, if it's a new boat so be it. I've bought new twice and have never regretted it, even in the dead of winter.

I hear ya hog88. Honestly it wouldnt be a smart move for me. Monthly payment was fine but not what I would end up paying for it. Plus I teach and coach and when you are a head coach you have a possibility of getting fired. If that happened I probably wouldnt be living on the lake and would not get as much use out of a boat.
