Hello. Last year before I put the boat up I started having an issue with the outboard. Starts and idles fine, when you give it throttle it revs up and sounds great but seems to just bury the back of the boat and drives up the front It was kind of scary and ended up going trolling speed back to shore. Not sure even where to start with this. Any experience with this type of problem would be greatly appreciated before I throw $$$ at it. Thanks for reading...

Thanks pvanv but thats not the problem. although that is exactly what its acting like. Its a manual trim motor. Can you think of any reason why it would act like that though?

If It's just revving up you may have a spun propeller hub or maybe the boat double bottom is full of water

Thanks. If I have spun the prop hub are there any identifying factors to look for? How do I correct this? If this is the case would I have some power to the prop? Its like its trimmed all wrong when throttle is applied, like Im tied off to a dock and Im trying to take off...No water in the boat, single bottom..I appreciate all the help. Im just trying to figure out a a way not to bring this motor in which is quite a drive for me...

If OB is working spot on, trim to a hole to have engine perpendicular to boat, usually second-third hole out transom. Test as before with a boating mate up front, you seem to have a badly balanced combo.

To test for a spun prop you make a mark on the prop and hub. Run the motor and see if the marks are still in line. If they are not the hub has spun. Hubs can be repaired or buy a new prop.

I have had zero problems with this boat in 5 years...this just happened one day while fishing. Its just a small trolling boat. Sounds like I spun the prop to me. If I go trolling speed Im all good I get on the throttle and go nowhere fast.

Will a new prop come with a the hub assembly? Thanks so much for the advice. We still have about a foot of ice, so I wont be able to test it out until ice out...I just want to be ready...I did last season hit my prop pretty hard on a rock, taking a nice chunk out of one the fins...could that have spun it?

Prop and hub come together.

Hitting the prop can cause a spun prop.
