I just bought a pontoon with a 2011 60hp 4stroke with the head removed. The pistons were rusted in place but with wd40 overnight it now turns freely with no rust or cylinder wall damage (nice cross hatching). The bottom piston does not come fully to the top, short by about 1/4". I can't feel any bearing play at the top or bottom of the stroke. Befor I take eveything apart I want to ensure this is not part of the engine's design. This engine has about 10hrs on it and there was no water in the oil. Thanks

More, at the bottom of the stroke the piston top is 1/4" deaper in the cylinder than the other 3 so it really does seem like the piston itself is shorter than the other 3???

Hmmm, sounds like it got dunked. If it was running at the time, or was hydrolocked I would suspect a bent connecting rod on that cylinder.

Ya, I was afraid of something like that, guess I'd better tear it down. The motor was briefly submerged but it wasn't running at the time. The old owner probably tried to start it with water in the cylinders. Thanks
