2010 T9.9GLPR shift rod

I replaced the impeller on my 2010 T9.9GLPR. The shift rod coming out of the lower unit will not move. The rod is too high. I got it back together but it will not shift into reverse. Forward is fine neutral is still forward. All the way back in reverse revs the motor but will not shift into reverse. I tried to uncouple the elongated nut and make sure there isn’t any space between the upper and lower rods.

take lower unit down.
use wise grip and push shift rod in reverse posytion.( push down)
set shift handle in reverse posytion.
in midsection spacer you will see a conector.
instal lower unit slowly and try to filt shift rod in coupler to catch a thread.
push lower up and tighten a conector
