I just bought a 2009 Tahoe Q4 with a 2010 150 Merc Optimax . I am, actually my husband and boys are very disappointed to say we have a major oil leak. Has anyone had experience with this ? it appears it is coming from the little cap inside the oil reservoir?! no owners manual so not sure if that is what it is called, in any case it seems I cannot tighten the little black cap anymore than iot is but it seems to be coming loose probably due to vibration. if I remove the cap and place my little finger in the hole it seems as though a piece has been broken off...not sure if there is suppose to be a gap where the threads are or if it is in all reality broken. Just taking a chance someone might know what I am talking about.

To be clear, an Optimax is a DFI motor, not an EFI motor. That makes no difference for your current issue, but may in the future.

If you removed the vent cap(smaller) you can damage the threads. It says in the manual do not remove the vent cap. I'm not sure on your 150 but on my 05 225 Opti, one is a oil level switch and the other is a vent cap. The vent cap or oil switch might be bad and when the engine oil pump is running, it's over filling and leaking out or you may be tilting your engine up and it's leaking out. The vent cap is to ensure the tank does not collapse should oil run out. It's 4 psi per the manual.

I do believe the tank has to be replaced and primed with oil.
