The wife and I went to the Milwaukee air show on the lake front again this year. We launched our boat in Port Washington on Saturday and ran down Lake Michigan to Milwaukee. Stayed overnight at McKinnley Marina after the Saturday show was canceled. Then ran back up the lake on Sunday after the show.

It's hard to beat the view of an air show from the water.

Saturday was pretty much a bust. Low clouds and fog caused the air show to be canceled. We did have a really good pizza for dinner at Zaffiro's Pizza & Bar but that was pretty much the high point of the day.

Sunday, the weather was much better. The sun actually broke through for most of the day and it warmed up nicely.

On to the pics. More are available in my Facebook Galleries.
Part 1 & Part 2
One from Saturday. Low clouds, fog. That's it.

Sunday. still a little hazy but we could at least see the tops of the buildings.

We got a close up view of the big Carver that the CG Aux was using. They turned off, but I was getting this "You scratched my anchor." vibe.

A couple of Sea Fleas ran out into the security zone. After the CG ran them down and showed them off, the Milwaukee Police had a long conversation with them.

I love this shot. I got the same shot last year with the Thunderbirds.

Thanks for sharing. I watched a good part of it from a downtown rooftop. Would have rather been out in the boat though. Glad the clouds cleared up for the main event too!

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Air & Sea Show (Warning! Many Pics!)

We went on Saturday and had a decent cruise. I checked the news sites at about Noon before we left, and I didn't see any notice of the show being cancelled. The kids were bummed that we didn't get to see any planes. Had other things to do on Sunday.

We launched about 1 PM on Saturday at South Shore Park in Milwaukee. When we left the harbor area, the water got pretty choppy pretty quick. Outside of the breakwater there were 3' rollers. I've got a deck boat and the kids were getting splashed a little bit, so we put the bow cover on and the kids hid under it. It was pretty exciting there for a few minutes. I was surprised to see some fairly small boats (17' to 19') out in the rollers that were getting tossed around pretty good.

After a few minutes some of the passengers were getting sea sick, so we cruised up into the Milwuakee river where the water was very calm. We came back out about 3:15 (hoping the blue angels would still make their 3:30 appearance) and Lake Michigan had calmed significantly. When we came back to the harbor we did get to see a fire boat putting on a show, spraying water out of all 3 cannons.

Hopefully we'll have better luck next year!

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Air & Sea Show (Warning! Many Pics!)

About half way through the show on Sunday one of the Blue Angels (#5) headed off towards the airport and never came back. At the time I wondered if it was a bird strike. The TV news confirmed that it was that night.

Now some pictures have been posted to the Milwaukee Air & Water Show Facebook page showing the strike. (The page is public so you don't have to be a Facebook member to view it, so enjoy!)

If you look close off the left wing you can see the unfortunate sea gull.

Look close, you can see bird bits behind the plane.
