On Mercury's web site, the specs (displacement, bore/stroke, top end rpm) for the 2010 4-stroke EFI 50 hp are identical in every way to the 60hp. How do they get the additional 10hp? Is there any reason to pay more for the 60hp?

Could be a few things like carb/intake, cam profile, head/valves or exhaust. Is it worth it? Depends how much they are asking. Those two probably have the same torque but in boats (unlike cars) it's all about HP. The 60 horse might let you go to the next higher prop.

While the injectors and throttle body are the same the ECU/ECM is different.

I always thought Torque was everything.

When you come to sell it, the 60hp will be worth more and easier to sell.
