Hello my name is Jason I am from Searcy AR. I have a 2010 Harris Pontoon boat I purchased brand new with a Merc 115 Efi. Four stroke This boat is in excellent condition and never gave any problems until now . I am stumped and need help . I own a automotive shop and mechanicly encluned but not a marine tech for sure . We took the boat out first time this year boat started fine backed off trailer but when got up on plane seemed to be running out of fuel . I have no marine repair facilities close to me so I am having to wing this issue. I changed common things first like low pressure filter and high pressure filters and inspected fuel lines . No luck . This is exactly what bot will do on garden hose . Boat will start run rev to 4,000 rom in forward gear after about 1 to 3 min boat acts like it runs out of fuel . With fuel pressure gauge installed I have 40 psi at start up once engine starts throwing fits fuel pressure drops to 20 15 then almost 0 engine dies . I have read a tremendous amount concerning the FSM on this engine. So far I have replaced lift pump float and high pressure pump regulator inspected regulator hose with no luck . Still at square one. I have bench tested original pumps they work fine . So buying new pumps I believe was a waste of money .i have also probed power wires on FSM once back together the pumps work fine . I believe there may be something stopping the fuel creating this issue . I also have ran boat on six gallon tank with clear hose nothing changed still the same problems. With FSM dry when you turn Key on I can hear one pump run about 5 or so seconds . I do not see how this can fil up FSM . I have also took ohm meter checked the float it works properly. My old float was faulty it would not ohm out . Once these engines get a trouble code
will it keep engine from running once repaired ? I do not have a scan tool to hook up to this engine. Can anyone please help me ?

My serial is 1B83991 . I failed to mention I also have changed spark plugs with NGK replacements. And also followed procedures reliving gas from system at sreluef valve . Could the purge canister or the switch between breather and purge canister be causing this problem?

Have you found a solution? I have a 2004 40 hp EFI doing the same thing and I simply do not want to throw parts at it. If I pump the fuel bulb it gets hard. I put in a new filter at the engine with no change. When it first happened I thought I was able to clear the problem by removing the filter and shaking out. It would then start and go. Today nothing helped except to let it sit for a few minutes. Sometimes it would just cough, sputter and not go much more than idle speed. If I gave it full throttle it eventually would pick up and run near normal. I was pulling a load today at very slow speed. It ran excellent for a few miles then started the symptoms of being out of fuel. I tied up my load to the bank of the lake while I tinkered with the fuel filter. After several attempts it caught up so I just took it on home some 8 miles away at 3/4 throttle with no problem. I'll have to retrieve my load ...
