Hey guys I had a situation I started 2 outings ago. I was running WOT and heard what sounded like a bearing squeaking I could not know for sure . I rowed back to launch and trailered it home. Too it out again to try and re create at the launch by my house . Couldn't do it. No noise this time as before when it was squeaking at idle and noise sped up when o throttled up. Took it out fishing and no noise again, took it slow for 20 minutes , no problems , ran hard WOT and about 2 mins I heard what sounded like bolts rattling in a pop can . Motor lost power and slowly shut off. Tried to start and it turned over and putted out after 2 seconds. Tried again and motor was stuck. I could not move the flywheel . The block was cool not even warm really. Motor was peeing , water pump was warm, but not even close to hot.
What happened ?!

Thanks for any help

Checked lower unit oil ??--------Oil injection working ?------------Tested it ?-----------Sounds like you now have failed bearings and major $$$ repairs.------What do sparkplugs look like ?

Spark plugs fine , lower unit is a jet drive and I have not ruled that out. Oil injection was working . What bearing can just go bad like that ? And why ?

Maybe a parts diagram of what bearing are around the driveshaft would help see what could bind this motor up?

Bottom cyclinder is toast. Metal on the spark plug. Guy quoted me 2500-3000 for a rebuilt powerhead with 1 year warranty. I don't understand how this can just all of a sudden happen. Any thoughts ?

You said sparkplugs were fine at one point !---And I would say $3000 is major repairs.

I bet the oil injection filter is plugged. Tear it apart take the cylinder block to a fair priced machine shop, bore the bad cylinder, then hone all cylinders with a straight stone hone, re ring the old pistons, now put it back together.

Free outboard service manuals at www baotinfo.no/lib/library, click on your make motor, find your service manual, watch YouTube videos on rebuilding outboards.

Now what do you think of oil injected outboards?

Oil injection failure resulting in catastrophic engine failure.
Kills a lot of the older Johnson VRO engines. Yours has a different injector pump, but the same basic things cause loss of oil..

forgetting to fill the oil tank
clogged oil injection system
Failed pump (for any of a few reasons)

And as is usually the case, the injection alarm fails or goes off just in time for the engine to be destroyed.
